Update on me

My schedule is a bit crazy- when isn't it. That's the way I like my life. I seem to get restless when I have too many nights at home doing nothing. I like to have side projects/ businesses/ events, etc etc.

I was studying to get my Certified Personal Trainers certificate from NASM. I was in a 9 week program to study, take the exam and start training. It was an exciting thing for me!! I still am excited about it but I needed to take a little break to focus on coaching my cheerleaders. That 9 weeks I started... it's been a few months back.

In case you missed it- I am also a middle school cheerleader coach.
I love coaching these girls so much. I truly have fallen in love with them. However basketball season has been crazy. Games 2 nights a week and practice 1 day.
I also take my daughters to dance 1 day that leaves 1 week-day at home to get anything done!

I needed to make a decision to follow my career in fitness or to follow my career in coaching? I decided to cram in one more thing- omg!!! I got a part time job at my local YMCA as a fitness room attendant. It has been really fun getting acclimated to being in the gym setting. I even get to teach a weekly Pilates Reformer class. Which I LOVE!!! In order to do this though I had to give up being with my cheerleaders 1 night a week. I feel like I have missed out- but I do still get to do both and love both.

So there I was... cheer 2 days a week, dance 1 day a week, working at the ymca 1-3 days a week and enjoying every minute of it. Yes it was exhausting and at times I just wanted stay home and do nothing. But now here I am in between seasons and not knowing what to do with myself.

Cheer season just ended and we have a bit of a break. It hasn't even been a week and I miss my girls so much!!! I'm going to take this time to put the focus back on getting my CPT license. Also there is a Varsity head coach position open at the school I coach at now. I'm super excited about the possibility of moving into a bigger role. So I am also going to put a lot of work into making sure that I am absolutely qualified for that position (I'll keep you posted as to whether I get it or not- say prayers for me).

So for the next few months plan to see a lot of me on here. As I enjoy my time at the ymca- and prepare for the upcoming cheer season I will need all the love and support you can give. THANK YOU for you following :)

Stretching for flexibility

Stretching is such a critical aspect of life. Stretching will not only improve your athletic abilities it will also help prevent injuries. When you stretch it allows your joints to move in their full range of motion. This is also a great technique to get blood to flow to your muscles. When it comes to cheerleading stretching is a huge aspect. Why? because the focus is on flexibility. When my cheerleaders ask me how to get better jumps- my answer is always to stretch daily. So how do you stretch for cheer? - First you never want to start with cold muscles. So first thing to do is is a light jog for 5-10 minutes. After that your muscled will be warm and ready to be stretched out. - Next focus on your major muscle groups and muscles that you use frequently. For cheer, that would be your calves, hamstrings, quads and hips.It is also a good idea to stretch your back and neck. - When you stretch your right side, make sure you are also stretching your left side. - Hold your stretch
